We would like to thank the following outstanding volunteers......

Robert Weinland, F.N.P.

Robert (Bob) Weinland is a family nurse practitioner who has been instrumental in Crossroad’s Thursday night clinic for more than three years.

Bob’s unfailing dedication to the Thursday night clinic has allowed us to continue this service—which offers working clients the opportunity to receive health care during their time off.

Bob is a skilled clinician as well as a compassionate advocate for clinic patients.  For his service, Bob received the “Outstanding Volunteer” award from Community Action in May 2005.

Clinic Volunteer

Kris Roybal, Registered Nurse

Kris Roybal has been a tireless volunteer for Cheyenne Crossroads Clinic.  She has worked on Thursday nights at the clinic for several years.  In addition to putting in countless hours as a volunteer nurse, she also recruits new volunteer health care providers for the clinic.

Kris constantly advocates for the underserved in Cheyenne, both in her daytime role as the chief nursing officer at the Laramie County Detention Facility and in her volunteer role at the Cheyenne Crossroads Clinic.  For her efforts, Kris received Community Action’s “Outstanding Volunteer” award in May 2004.

Kris is currently pursuing an advance practice degree in nursing, while maintaining her full-time employment and volunteer efforts. Her ambition is to be a family nurse practitioner, a position that will enable her to further champion the needs of the underserved in Cheyenne.

“Team Depot”

Helps Head Start

In 2004 and 2005, dozens of employees from the Home Depot store in Cheyenne volunteered several hundred hours to paint Laramie County Head Start facilities and classrooms.  They also worked alongside Head Start children to plant flowers at one site and organized holiday projects and crafts for children in our Head Start programs.  In addition, Home Depot and its suppliers donated materials for all the projects.  Laurie Meeks coordinated the volunteer efforts on behalf of the Cheyenne store.  To thank the employees (also known as “Team Depot”) for their work, Community Action awarded Home Depot an “Outstanding Community Partner” award in 2005.  As to why local Home Depot employees selected Head Start for their service, Laurie said that the corporation encourages projects that benefit the local community—including those that help children:

“With Team Depot, our goal is to build up the community that we live and work in.  We want people in our community to know that we care about them and want to make a difference in their lives….  Besides, I like helping children.  Anything that will make their world a little better or brighter, that’s something I want to be involved with.”
