Wyoming Kinship Advocacy (WYKA) is a program of Community Action of Laramie County. WYKA holds a monthly informational meeting, every third Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center located at 2101 Thomes Ave, Cheyenne, Wyoming, with respite care and a meal provided. Topics have included Identity Theft, Play Therapy, Relaxation Techniques, issues that affect teenagers and young adults about safe sex, the dangers of drugs, how to handle finances, bullying and troubled youth. All trainings are open to the public and two hours of training credit are allowed for each meeting. WYKA, in partnership with PCA Wyoming holds support group meetings that are held on the second and fourth Thursday of the month from 7-8 pm everyone is welcome.
WYKA assists clients with obtaining birth certificates and social security cards for children, contacting law enforcement agencies, prison systems and limited legal assistance. A staff member will assist clients in filling out paperwork necessary for obtaining child support, POWER and temporary guardianship. WYKA refers clients to community agencies that assist in paying light and gas bills, emergency assistance for car repairs, rental deposits, low income housing, and senior housing etc. WYKA also issues requests to the community and its members for washers and dryers, stoves, beds, clothing, baby food, formula and household items. Transportation is available to those that need a ride to meetings.
